The coating on the inner pot is ceramic: a heavy, dark-chocolate coloured, shiny coating that is holding up well after years of use. Very easy to clean. The coating on the outside of the cooker -- the so-called 'chalk board' -- is just a layer of matte black paint on the aluminium body.

Sorry but I don't remember buying this device.
