Can the resistance also be set to almost 0, i.e. virtually no resistance? It's about rehabbing the knee at the beginning and then slowly building up the resistance.

Yes, if you unscrew the resistance lever completely, the pedals turn almost in a vacuum. I've had this model for 8 months now, with 3000+ km covered, and it's great. Resistant, stable... I can only recommend it.
