Are laser measuring devices still allowed?

Since 1 June 2019, laser pointers are no longer allowed or only class 1 of which there are almost no available models and if so only cheap products. Most distance measuring devices are class 2 and have a pointing function. Wouldn't they therefore actually also be considered pointers? For the purposes of this section, "laser pointer" means a laser device which, by reason of its size and weight, can be held and guided by hand and which emits laser radiation for pointing, amusement, defence and deterrence purposes." All I really need is a decent pointer to test the refraction of materials but it seems almost nothing is allowed anymore. I think the new law overshoots the mark a bit and I wonder if those responsible were aware of how far-reaching it is.
