Elephant's Foot (Beaucarnea Recurvata)

This plant owes its German name "Elefantenfuss" to the bulbous shape at the base of the stem and the bark, which resembles the skin of an elephant. This thick trunk serves as a water reservoir for dry periods that it must endure in its native steppe region of Mexico. Thanks to this, the Beaucarnea Recurvata requires very little water, making it very resilient and easy to care for. Because its palm-like crown of leaves resembles a ponytail, this plant is also known as the Ponytail Palm in English.
