Maranta leuconeura, also known as colourful arrowroot or prayer plant, is a fascinating houseplant that originally comes from the tropical rainforests of Brazil. This plant belongs to the arrowroot family and is characterised by its eye-catching, decoratively patterned leaves, which appear in different shades of green with light, dark red and purple veins, depending on the variety. A remarkable feature of Maranta leuconeura is its unique behaviour: Its leaves fold up in the evening, which has earned it the name "prayer plant". This characteristic makes it an interesting addition to any home. The plant grows low and bushy and reaches a height of up to 30 to 40 cm. It requires a light to semi-shady location and high humidity to thrive. Care is uncomplicated, but requires regular spraying and even watering to avoid waterlogging. Maranta leuconeura is not hardy and should be kept at temperatures above 15 °C.
