Instead of sending you the device, waiting a few weeks without a device and getting it back with the same problem, I decided to live with the fact that I am using a poor quality device.

There are really two versions here. One that uses the mobile phone to receive the traffic data and one with the cable included. With this item, a mobile phone would have to be used for the traffic radio. According to the manufacturer's website, however, there is no difference in the data.

I received the Garmin DriveSmart 66 MT-D yesterday. During the first exercises at home, I was unfortunately only able to display current traffic information on the sat nav using the app on my mobile via Bluetooth. With Bluetooth off, charging cable in the sat nav and (other side) in the PC, no traffic information was available. In the settings on the sat nav, only the option "Garmin Drive required" is displayed for traffic. On the map page, the message "Traffic information is currently deactivated" is displayed.
Can anyone tell me how I can get DAB+ to work?
Does it only work with the sat nav in the car connected to the cigarette lighter (I haven't tried it yet as I don't have my own car)?

I bought the Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-D EU 4 years ago. It is now faulty and I would like to replace it with an up-to-date sat nav with dashcam. The Garmin DriveSmart 66 MT-S seems to fulfil my requirements, but it seems to have a different cable connection to the DriveAssist 51, but I would like to avoid the cost of installing a new cable in my car.
Therefore my question: Is there a transition part for the cable of the DriveAssist 51 to the socket of the DriveSmart 66 or is there a comparable Garmin sat nav to the DriveSmart 66 but with the same cable connector as the DriveAssist 51?

Garmin DriveSmart devices with the additional designation MT-D receive traffic information via DAB. Only the supplied connection cable with built-in receiver is required. Therefore, no mobile phone is necessary for the pure traffic information! - Additional information such as weather and short-term information can, of course, also be received via the Garmin APP if desired.
Devices with the additional designation MT-S show the traffic information only via the Garmin mobile app. Of course, the mobile must have permanent reception.
So the only difference is whether or not there is an ATM.
Both models can collect traffic information from a smartphone connected via Bluetooth.
The DAB makes it possible to obtain this information without the presence of a smartphone nearby.
Indeed, it seems that this service will cease in 2025 in some countries, but Switzerland does not seem to be concerned.

I find 3 Garmin with the same name "DriveSmart 66" on Digitec's site. One for CHF 170.-, one for 220.- and one for 202.- The difference in specifications makes no sense to me, except that one is described in English and with Alexa integration.

This Garmin DriveSmart 66 (6 ") can receive the traffic radio via DAB+ and is therefore independent of a connection to the smartphone. However, it is possible to receive the traffic radio via a connected smartphone.
The last Garmin DriveSmart 66 (6 ") has the Alexa voice assistant integrated. The integration of Alexa makes it possible to play music, listen to audio books or the news by voice command. Traffic information is only available on this model via a paired smartphone.
