Do I need the paid plan? Does the keypad still have emergency buttons, do they work in Switzerland?

You don't need a plan. The emergency buttons work in Switzerland
The plan is required to utilise the full functionality. This is used to activate the integrated SIM card. Anso sten there are e-mails with messages.
The emergency buttons may work in Switzerland, but not without a plan. This means that emergency organisations are not notified without a plan and, as far as I know, it is not possible to notify other people by phone. At least almost everything else works without a plan. Not like many others....
