The Shiba Inu dog breed was originally bred to catch birds and small game, and was occasionally used for hunting wild boar. It is one of the six native breeds of Japan: Akita (large), Kishu, Hokkaido, Kai, Shikoku (medium), and Shiba (small). It is known for its spirited personality, small upright ears, and cat-like agility. Today, it primarily serves as a companion dog in Japan and the USA.
