One of the intellectual fathers of the Uhlenhaut Coupé and the 300 SLR Roadster racing versions (W 196 S) was Rudolf Uhlenhaut, the head of the testing and racing department. The Uhlenhaut Coupé, named after him (of which there are only two versions worldwide), also differs from the standard 300 SL (W 198) with its even more dynamic body shape.
