One of the intellectual fathers of the Uhlenhaut Coupe and the 300 SLR Roadster racing versions (W 196 S) was Rudolf Uhlenhaut, the head of the testing and racing department. The Uhlenhaut Coupe, named after him (of which there are only two versions worldwide), also differs from the standard 300 SL (W 198) by its even more dynamic-looking body shape.
