After 40 years of IC connections in Germany, the fleet was a colorful mix. With the "IC mod." project, DB AG aimed to put an end to this situation and began implementing some prototype modifications starting in 2009. From 2012 onwards, series modifications commenced at the repair works in Kassel, Neumünster, and Nuremberg, where the cars received a new interior design to ICE standards, new doors, air conditioning, and wiring. Unlike the original model, PIKO opted for a completely new design for the modernized IC cars. The vehicles were precisely scaled to 1:87 and impress with fine engravings and flush-mounted windows. The interior is depicted in high detail and is on par with the original. The bogies also stand out with many details, such as individually mounted spring packs, magnetic brakes, and brake disc replicas on the axles. A look underneath the cars is also worthwhile. Machine installations, battery compartments, and all supply lines have been lovingly recreated with great attention to detail. The second-class car is, of course, prepared for the easy retrofitting of interior lighting.
