The Series 0 of the Shinkansen was the first train series built for high-speed lines. This series entered service in 1964. The maximum speed of the trains was 220 km/h, making them the fastest railway vehicles in the world at that time. Production of this series was discontinued in 1986. Due to its short lifespan of 15 years, only a few models of the Series 0 are still in operation.
