The production of the M113A2 began in June 1979. Building on the experiences from Vietnam, this version was constructed with an improved drive system, controls, cooling system, and reinforced suspension. M113A2 units were deployed during the Gulf War in 1991 and also in 2003 for the war against Iraq.
