From the deepest dungeons to the highest peak, I fought against him, the Balrog of Morgoth. Until I finally cast down my foe and struck his ruin against the mountainside. Darkness took me, and I lost myself from thought and time. Stars swirled above me, and each day was as long as an age of the earth. But it was not the end. I felt life return within me. I was sent back until my task is fulfilled.

Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli follow their Hobbit friends and enter the darkness of the ancient forest of Fangorn. Dark and dangerous is this old wood, a remnant of the great forest that once covered much of the wild lands east of the mountains. As the gnarled trees hanging above them begin to groan ominously to one another, the three hunters become aware of the presence of a mysterious figure cloaked in robes.

"The white wizard approaches," warns Legolas, and anticipating the appearance of their enemy Saruman, the three let their swords, axes, and arrows fly, only to be halted by a blinding spell. Quickly overwhelmed, the friends' thoughts turn to the worst, and in desperation and fear, they demand their enemy to reveal himself. But the end has not come on this day, for as the radiant light fades and his gray cloak falls, before them stands not a fallen wizard, but a friend from beyond the borders of the mortal world; Gandalf has returned.

"I am Gandalf the White, and I come back to you now, at the turning point of the tides."
