11 mobile games that will help even football fans survive the European Championships

Are you constantly being forced to watch Ronaldo and the other football princesses doing gymnastics on the pitch? Then simply install the following games and the European Championship will fly by.
1. Barking Irons
Pew pew pew. Like Lucky Luke, you can chase blue beans up the arse of all kinds of bandits in this Wild West shooter. You aim by dragging your finger downwards. This creates a target line. The more accurately you hit, the greater the damage caused. Pretty graphics and amusing, entertaining gameplay.
Free for Android and CHF 1 iOS
2. Good Knight Story
The game principle is the same as Bejeweled or Candy Crush. You try to connect as many tiles of the same colour as possible. However, much longer combinations are possible as you can also draw diagonal lines. And these are also necessary so that your own knight, who marches above the game board, can deal with his opponents. Really nice design and funny animations when you turn zombies and orcs into mincemeat with your sword.
3. Pixel Super Heroes
Beautiful pixel graphics and numerous unlockable superheroes to run as far as possible in this endless runner - you guessed it. By collecting letters and power-ups, you get bonuses such as pogo sticks or can fly for a short time. It costs nothing and there are only adverts if you want to unlock additional bonuses.
4. Rush Rally 2
A rally game that is really challenging and offers plenty of variety. Tired of boring time trials? Then there are various game modes such as "dodge missiles" waiting to be mastered.
CHF 3.5 for Android and CHF 4 for iOS
5th Leap Day
Leap Day has a Doodle Jump feel to it. The little man runs constantly and you have to try to time your jumps correctly to keep scrambling up the platforms. You can jump on enemies' heads Super Mario-style if you are skilful. Pretty and colourful style. Doesn't cost anything, but the adverts are a bit intrusive and you have to watch the clips to unlock checkpoints if you don't want to pay with the points you collect - money is of course also accepted.
6. Kung Fury
The best thing to do before you start playing is to watch the film on Youtube. The best 25 minutes of your life, I swear 😉. Just like in the film, it's mainly about thrashing hordes of enemies. Similar to the iconic Double Dragon, except instead of running around, you simply click at the right moment to send Nazi henchmen and robotic slot machines flying. The soundtrack is also brilliant.
7. Downwell
Downwell is going downhill. Only ever downwards. The further you get, the better. On the way, you have to flatten numerous enemies. Either by jumping on them or with the shooting iron. There are also resources to collect. These can be used to buy new lives or upgrades along the way. There are also new weapons to unlock, which you fire from your feet. Don't be put off by the simple graphics. A really brilliant game that you can also play on a PC.
8th Motor World: Car Factory
Motor World is almost a small business simulator. You develop a wide variety of vehicles, train employees and go racing. The colourful pixel graphics and varied gameplay will not let you go.
9th Sky Force Reloaded
Chic graphics, an expandable aircraft and lots of explosions. What more do you need? In the sequel to the successful Sky Force, the aim is once again to survive the various levels unscathed, rescue hostages and send as many enemies to the afterlife as possible.
10. War Tortoise
As a stationary war tortoise, you shoot down wave after wave of killer frogs and rat shooters. In the process, you earn money that you can spend on new weapons and upgrades. Amusing fun that costs nothing. The adverts that pop up from time to time can be clicked away without having to wait.
11th Kick 'n' Run Ronaldo
OK, here comes a bit of football, but only because it's so funny. Kick 'n' Run is an endless runner à la Temple Run. Instead of deadly pitfalls and rolling stones, there are straddling footballers and speeding cars. And because you play as Ronaldo, you can also kick the ball to shoot targets. He hits them just as confidently as he hits the post with a penalty kick.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
