Android 13 for the Phone (1): Nothing takes its time

Nothing wants to have only the best software for its smartphone and is therefore extensively testing Android 13 for the Phone (1). Therefore, the update will not be released until 2023.
Actually, Android Authority had written a article about Nothing founder Carl Pei responding to a Twitter user's question about Android 13 for the Phone (1) with a discreetly passive-aggressive "A product is more than just its specs, features, and version numbers" reagierte. In response, the editors received an official statement from Nothing.

A lot of time for fine-tuning
Nothing's statement said, among other things, that it was always working hard to improve the user experience of the Phone (1). That's why software updates would be fine-tuned to the hardware before release. This means that Android 13 for the Phone (1) will not be released until the first half of 2023.
We are always working hard to improve the Phone 1 user experience. To ensure this, operating system updates will be made available for regular download. In regards to Android 13, this will be launching for Phone 1 users in the first half of 2023. Before releasing, we want to fine tune the software upgrade with Nothing's hardware. We will be sure to keep you updated with further information.
So if you bought a Phone (1) because of the Glyph back, you'll have to wait for Android 13. Until then, you'll have to make do with the update to Nothing OS 1.1.3, which Carl Pei actually wanted to praise in the above-linked thread on Twitter - and which promises some improvements, especially for the camera's image quality.
In view of the minor differences between the basic variant of Android as well as the Nothing OS, three to a maximum of nine months for the update seem very long. Other manufacturers such as Samsung or Xiaomi, whose user interfaces require significantly more customisation, are already further along at least with some of their smartphones. Especially since Nothing only has one smartphone to supply so far.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
