Canon announces new Cinema EOS camera system

Translation: machine translated

Canon USA announces a new Cinema EOS camera system on social media. The camera, which focuses on video, arrives Jan. 19.

As announced on Canon's USA Twitter channel the company announced a new Cinema EOS camera system on January 19 at 1 p.m. Central European Time.

A large sturdy tripod can be seen in the picture, which also points to a big, chunky camera. If the rumor mill is correct, it's got some specs in it, too.

According to Canon Rumors, the new Cinema camera will be a version of the EOS R5 system with the following specs:

  • 45-megapixel full-frame sensor
  • DIGIC X
  • IBIS
  • Canon Log 3
  • Canon Log 2 (still under discussion)
  • no internal ND filters
  • Unlimited 8K 30P recording capability in Cinema Raw Light. XF-AVC and MP4.
  • Timecode in/out
  • Same hot shoe as the EOS R3.
  • Active cooling
  • 3/8″ or 1/4″ attachment to the electric viewfinder for a top grip that doesn't interfere with the hot shoe.
  • HDMI port
  • The LCD screen is said to be moved further back to make room for the cooling fan. This again suggests that the LCD won't blend into the body like it does on the EOS R5.

Canon writes "be ready for anything" and one thing is clear: we can expect a hunk of a camera.
