Google Chrome has a new icon: here’s what’s behind it
by Dominik Bärlocher
The Chrome browser has reached version number 100. For its anniversary, Google has given it a new logo - and not much else.
It took almost 14 years for Chrome to reach version 100. Google accelerated the path to the three-digit version number last year and shortened the update period from six to four weeks.
Google celebrates the round anniversary of the browser without big festivities. No new features, no redesign, but only "fixes and improvements". In addition, the "Lite Mode" disappears from the Android app. It was meant to consume less data. But as Chrome Support Manager Craig Tumblison explains in a blog post, the main version of Chrome on Android is now so EFFICIENT in data consumption that the data saver mode has become superfluous.
So the logo remains the only major gift for the anniversary. This has been known since the beginning of February, which is why our colleague Dominik Bärlocher has already taken a detailed look at the changes.
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
