Curved was yesterday: TCL presents dome display
Display manufacturer TCL CSOT presented various innovations at a conference in China. The most interesting is a gaming display that is curved in two directions.
The Chinese manufacturer TCL CSOT has presented a new type of OLED display with a 31-inch diagonal. It is not only curved horizontally, but also vertically. The dome shape is designed to provide an immersive gaming experience. The display has a 4K resolution and a frame rate of 120 hertz.
Dome-shaped displays have been available in professional simulators for some time, but they are not affordable for home use. How useful the double curvature is for a 31-inch screen remains questionable. Contrast and colour shifts in the vertical plane are minimal at this height at normal distances, even with a straight display.

In addition to the dome display, TCL presented other models at its own "Global Display Tech-ecosystem Conference" in Wuhan. The specifications of a 57-inch mini LED display sound suspiciously like Samsung's Odyssey Neo G9: Dual UHD resolution, 1000R curvature, 240 Hertz frame rate.
The latest new monitor from TCL promises an insanely high pixel density: 8K resolution on 27 inches results in 326 pixels per inch (PPI). However, only half of this will be visible at once. An integrated camera with eye tracking should enable a 3D image in 4K without glasses.

TCL CSOT only produces displays and not finished screens - similar to Samsung Display or LG Display. It is not yet clear where exactly the technologies presented will be used. No prices or dates are known either.
My fingerprint often changes so drastically that my MacBook doesn't recognise it anymore. The reason? If I'm not clinging to a monitor or camera, I'm probably clinging to a rockface by the tips of my fingers.
