Two helmets, one concept: The "XOXO" and its sustainable counterpart "XOXO Eco" from Abus hardly differ in design - but clearly in the materials used.

Bike helmets are an essential piece of safety equipment for cyclists. They protect the head in the event of a fall and can prevent serious injuries. In this article, I will introduce you to our two new products from Abus: the «XOXO» and the «XOXO Eco». Both helmets are aimed at everyday riders.

«XOXO»: solid everyday helmet without bells and whistles

The «XOXO» from Abus is a typical urban helmet. It comes in a simple look and a rather round shape. Depending on the size, it weighs between 280 and 310 grams. This is average for a city helmet.

You can adjust the helmet using a slider at the back of the head to adapt it to the shape of your head. According to the manufacturer, the chin closure can also be easily adjusted using a plug-in mechanism. The padding can be removed and washed.

In terms of ventilation, the «XOXO» offers a total of twelve openings. This is sufficient for normal city journeys. The safety certification complies with the EN 1078 standard, which is mandatory for bicycle helmets in Europe. The bike helmets are available in three sizes in the colours green, blue, white and black.

«XOXO Eco»: sustainable alternative with identical construction

The «XOXO Eco» is technically based on the normal «XOXO». The housing, fit, weight and safety level are identical. The difference lies in the material.

The helmet uses partially recycled plastics and, according to the manufacturer, relies on sustainable production processes. For example, the EPS layer (foam) and the straps are made entirely from recycled material. Other components also contain recycled content: 20 per cent of the outer shell and 30 per cent of the adjustment system. The top side of the inner padding is made from 84 per cent recycled Lycra, while the back is made entirely from recycled velvet. Only the upholstery core is still made from non-recycled PU foam.

In addition, Abus does not use glue or rivets to connect the components. Instead, detachable connections are used - this facilitates both disassembly and subsequent recycling.

The «XOXO Eco» is available in three sizes in the colour beige.
