DIY hologram for your tablet

With these simple steps, you can bring the future into your home with the help of old CD cases. Convert your tablet into a projector for holograms in an instant, sit back and enjoy the show.

Preparation

In order to recreate your own hologram at home, you don't need as much as you might think. All you need are a few transparent CD cases and, of course, a tablet.

Building instructions

First take a piece of paper and draw the template according to the photo. The dimensions of the trapezoid are at the bottom 13 cm, at the top 3 cm and on the side 10 cm. Once you have created the drawing, you can cut out the trapezoid with scissors.

Now the CD sleeves come into play. To do this, separate the transparent cover from the lower part of the sleeve. Then place the template that you cut out in the previous step on the cover. Now you can either transfer the template onto the plastic with a pen or trace the contours of the trapezoid directly with a cutter. Use the cutter to cut the sides of the trapezoid until it comes away easily and without exerting too much pressure.

Repeat this step three more times so that you end up with four equally sized plastic trapezoids in front of you.

In the next and final step, we join the trapezoids together. To do this, lay the individual sides flush with each other and connect them using transparent adhesive tape. To join the last two sides, stand your model up to form a pyramid and glue the first and last trapezoids together.

That's it already. The construction is already complete. Now let's get to the interesting part, the hologram.

Holograms

To make the hologram visible in the pyramid you have made, you need to run a film on your tablet. To do this, set the screen brightness to the highest level and go to YouTube. Search for the term "3D hologram videos" or simply take a look at the following playlist.

Projection

To make the hologram visible, place your pyramid on the screen of the tablet on which the hologram video is running. Make sure that the small side of the pyramid is at the bottom and the larger opening is facing upwards. Now all you have to do is align everything in the centre and your hologram will flicker in front of you.
