DJI Mic 2: An update for the wireless microphone system

The microphone system from DJI consists of two wireless transmitters and a receiver. The manufacturer is now updating the set. I tried it out briefly.

With the DJI Mic 2, you can record two sound sources simultaneously. Practical, for example, if you are recording a conversation with two people. The sources can be merged into one track or used as separate channels. If you are only recording one sound source, you can use the second mic as a backup. This records 6 dB quieter so that you have a usable recording even in the event of clipping.

The receiver can be plugged directly into a smartphone, tablet or computer via USB-C or Lightning. It also fits into the accessory shoe of a camera. The sound is then transmitted via a short 3.5 mm cable, which is also included in the scope of delivery.

The transmitters have a classic clamping mechanism that allows you to attach them to an item of clothing, for example. A strong magnet is also included. This allows you to clamp a thin piece of clothing or attach the microphone to a metal object. A windscreen for both transmitters is also included.

The transmitters can also record the sound directly to their internal memory. They each have 8 GB of memory for this. With 24-bit WAV, this is enough for 14 hours.

What's new

Nothing has changed in the concept compared to the first DJI Mic. The manufacturer has redesigned the case. It is made of metal and makes a very solid impression. There is now a red rotary and click button on the receiver, which simplifies operation. The screen is slightly larger than on the previous model. The transmitters can now also be connected directly to a smartphone or other Bluetooth receiver. In addition to 24-bit audio, 32-bit audio is now also available. Another new feature is "intelligent noise cancellation" - you can hear an example in the video below.

The DJI Mic 2 is available now. There is also a version with just one transmitter and the transmitter alone. A DJI Mic 2 transmitter is also included in the DJI Pocket 3 Creator Combo.

My interest in IT and writing landed me in tech journalism early on (2000). I want to know how we can use technology without being used. Outside of the office, I’m a keen musician who makes up for lacking talent with excessive enthusiasm.
