Drone sales hit new all-time high

Galaxus is flying towards a sales record for drones. After buyer interest dropped off following the Covid high, demand has now rebounded above the previous record years of 2020 and 2025. Used to capture spectacular shots, drones have become a core summer companion for many people.

Picture this: Sunday morning, Adriatic coast. Your drone climbs higher and higher in the cloudless sky, capturing moments no selfie could. It’s experiences like this that have made drones a popular companion for summer.

The figures speak for themselves: 2026 is on track to become a new record year. Drone sales at Galaxus are currently 20 per cent above the same period in the record year of 2025. Interest has risen noticeably after 2023 in particular saw a dip (-18 per cent year-on-year).

Summer is drone season

The options are endless: «Many people use drones to capture aerial shots of mountain landscapes, lakes and holiday destinations. Others take them along on hikes, bike rides or family outings,» says Tim Tanner, Category Business Manager at Galaxus.

Buyers are opting for complete packages

Combo packages – meaning drones bundled with spare propellers, extra batteries, chargers or carry bags – sell three times as well at Galaxus as drones without accessories. «Drone pilots want to be ready to fly straight away, and not be held back by a flat battery or broken propellers during longer use out in the open,» says Tim.

The latest trend: 360 drones

Drone expert Tim already has the next development in his sights: «360-degree drones are one of the most exciting innovations in the consumer drone market. Models like the Insta360 Antigravity A1 and the DJI Avata 360 mean all-round-view drones are now available to private users for the first time.»

According to Tim, the decisive advantage over conventional drones lies in post-processing. Because the camera films in every direction simultaneously, you can select the exact frame on your computer after the flight. «That gives you considerably more creative freedom – and more peace of mind, since there’s no need to redo an otherwise perfect shot just because the angle wasn’t quite right. That’s a real plus, especially for content creators.»

From combo packages to 360-degree cameras, drones have established themselves as a summer companion. As for that aerial shot of the Adriatic coast, chances are it has already been posted on Instagram.
