E3 is the most important games trade fair of the year. As every year, the industry will shower us with new game presentations, trailers and hot news. We can look forward to the following games and consoles in particular. You can also watch one of the press conferences with us.

E3 starts earlier every year. In the past, the news fireworks in Los Angeles used to ignite on Tuesday, but now Activision starts on Saturday. By then at the latest, we will be treated to a constant flow of trailers and announcements. Below you will find the most important and exciting game and hardware presentations that we can expect. Slightly subjectively coloured, as it would have been a little too extensive for all games.

The press conferences of the major manufacturers will take place as follows

Saturday, 10 June 2017

  • 21:00 - Electronic Arts

Sunday, 11 June 2017

  • 23:00 - Microsoft

Monday, 12 June 2017

  • 06:00 am - Bethesda Softworks
  • 20:00 - PC Gaming Show
  • 22:00 - Ubisoft

Tuesday, 13 June 2017

  • 03:00 - Sony
  • 18:00 - Nintendo Direct

You can watch Nintendo's press conference live with us. We will be following and commenting on the event in a live stream. You are cordially invited to tune in and chat with us. The stream will start at approximately 17:45. Just check our site on Tuesday evening (13 June) and the corresponding article should be online. Here's the article with the live stream.

But there are still a few days to go until then, so here are the upcoming highlights of E3 2017.

The Last of Us Part 2

It's been four years since we wandered through the mushroom zombie-infested world with Ellie and Joel. The post-apocalyptic survival horror game was by far one of the best PS3 titles. Even though the game was self-contained and didn't really need a sequel, I'm really looking forward to seeing what successful developer Naughty Dog pulls out of the hat again.

Days Gone

Days Gone is in the same vein as The Last of Us. However, you will also be able to take on quests and move around the world more freely. Another special feature are the hordes of zombies that pounce on the player like waves.

Destiny 2

The first instalment is one of the most successful but also most controversial games of recent years. Many people love it and still play the MMO shooter every day, while others (myself included) were quickly left cold by the somewhat unfinished and content-poor base game. Nevertheless, I am very excited about the new instalment, not least because of the planned PC version, which should finally be what part 1 should have been at launch.

Call of Duty: WWII

Even though I'm sick and tired of the same old gameplay, the exaggerated pathos and the annual releases, I have to say that I'd still like to see a flashy campaign in the Second World War again. The setting has been back in fashion since Battlefield 1 at the latest and the multiplayer mode should also get a breath of fresh air thanks to the slower weapons.

Death Stranding

Not much is yet known about Hideo Kojima's next project, so there could finally be a new weird trailer. The Japanese development legend is always good for a surprise and even if you're not a Metal Gear Solid fan, you should keep an eye on Death Stranding.

Cyberpunk 2077

The creators of The Witcher have shifted their full attention to their new project, so it's about time for some visuals. An epic role-playing game of The Witcher calibre with cyberpunk? Yes, please.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Dice has succeeded in relaunching the series. However, the scope and the lack of a real campaign were particularly criticised. The developers want to improve both. In a first trailer, you take on the role of the Empire for a change. But now we want to see real gameplay.

Forza Motorsport 7

Microsoft's racing series could be one of the showcase games for the Xbox Scorpio. Developer Turn 10 will most likely once again be responsible for the racing simulation and deliver us the finest graphics porn.

Halo 6

In addition to lead feet, trigger-happy Microsoft fans should also get some new fodder. The sci-fi epic about the Master Chief is sure to make a spectacular entrance.

Crackdown 3

The wacky action series has been conspicuous by its absence for some time. 2017 promises improvement. As a secret agent with superpowers, you will hopefully soon be able to wreak havoc again. The destruction possibilities were already legendary in part 2.

Super Mario Odyssey

We have already caught a brief glimpse of the next real 3D Mario. But that little appetiser has long since been digested, so I'm now really excited to see what Mario is up to in the world of HUMANS. Will he leap murderously from one passer-by's head to the next? We shall see.

Far Cry 5

No more South Seas, jungle or mountain scenarios. The latest instalment is set in the middle of the USA, in sprawling Montana. The fight is against a fanatical doomsday cult and gun-toting hillbillies. Promises to be a hot potato.

Assassin's Creed Origins

An alleged screenshot.

After a short break, we'll be climbing and slaying in ancient Egypt again this year. Let's hope that the break has done the series some good and that developer Ubisoft has finally reworked the tired concept. For history fans, however, gambolling around on the pyramids will be a highlight either way.

The Elders Scrolls 6

Skyrim is still one of the most popular games (at least on Steam), but it's been around for six years now. Not much is likely to happen with Fallout 4 either, so Bethesda would have time to continue the fantasy series. Although a new brand would make me even happier, I always enjoy travelling to Tamriel.

Shadow of Tomb Raider

Not to be confused with Shadow of War, I'll get to that in a minute. The title was leaked because someone in Montreal photographed the following laptop screen on the underground. The possible name of the latest Tomb Raider game is barely recognisable. Even if I didn't need a sequel this year, I'm still curious to see where Lara Croft will end up next.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War

The Shadow of War, which interests me even more, is set in Middle Earth. However, it's not about Frodo, Gandalf and the rest of the merry fellows, but about Talion. His spirit is fused with the elven smith Celebrimbor, who made the one ring for Sauron. This makes him a tough guy who can take on a whole fortress of orcs. The combat system is one of the finest the genre has to offer. Developer Monolith wants to take everything up a notch and we can prepare ourselves for epic battles.

Red Dead Redemption 2

The game has been postponed until early next year, but since Rockstar still owes us a few detailed gameplay scenes, it could be this year. For many, the first instalment is by far the best open-world western game of all time and expectations of the GTA makers could not be higher.

God of War

Kratos is back and has brought reinforcements in the form of his young son. In the first trailer, the two were seen hunting together. The relationship between the two shows an unknown side of God of War. The new direction of the bloody brawler series sounds promising and I'm excited to see what else we get to see from Sony.

State of Decay 2

And one more dose of zombies to finish. Another survival horror game in which you slip into different bodies. If a character dies, it's off to the next survivor, provided you still have people in your shelter. Looting, shooting, hiding from zombies, the first part offered a lot of excitement, but was a bit repetitive overall. I hope the second part will be the Terminator and the sequels.

Xbox Scorpio

A lot is already known about the new 4K Xbox, but Microsoft has yet to give us many answers. For example, what it will look like and how much it will cost. We also want to see a few games on it that have been specially programmed for it. All of this should be revealed on Sunday evening.

PS Vita

A concept image.

According to the rumour mill, Sony could be working on a PS Vita successor. Even though the handheld console lost out to Nintendo's 3DS, it was a technical masterpiece and produced numerous brilliant games. After the success of the Nintendo Switch, a release seems a little more likely again.

I'm sure I've forgotten many more titles. Not to mention the many surprises that I always particularly enjoy. What are you looking forward to and are you also watching the press conferences live?

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
