HarmonyOS: Huawei presents its Android alternative
by Jan Johannsen
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro could be unveiled earlier than previously expected. This would be too early for HarmonyOS, but could generate important sales.
October has recently established itself as the month for the launch of the new Mate smartphones at Huawei. This year, the launch will take place on 19 September, as the Russian news site hi-tech.mail.ru concludes following a conversation with Dr Wang Chenglu, "President of Huawei Consumer Business Software" https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-mate-30-september-19th/ .
The conversation centred on the EMUI 10 user interface and the Kirin 990 as Huawei's next chipset. Chenglu revealed that the first device with it will be unveiled on 19 September 2019 - and that can only be the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.
After the presentation of HarmonyOS as Huawei's new operating system, it was speculated that the Mate 30 Pro could be the first smartphone to feature it. This becomes less likely with the earlier date, as the developers are missing important weeks. However, there is still a chance for the Android alternative: if Huawei refrains from the usual short interval between presentation and sales launch.
Huawei's presentation in mid-September would bring it closer to the expected launch and sales date for the next generation of iPhones. This could be in the hope of getting potential buyers of Apple's smartphone interested in its own device. It would be necessary, as the US embargo has caused a massive slump in sales in recent months, as Bloomberg reports . Officially, Huawei has not yet confirmed the date, but if you take the presentation of the Mate 20 Pro last year, the whole thing actually started back in August. The company used the IFA in Berlin to present the Kirin 980 and the Mate 20 Lite as the first smartphone in the Mate 20 series. .
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
