Huawei Mate Xs 2: Folding smartphone comes to Europe

Huawei already introduced the Mate Xs 2 for China in April. The foldable smartphone has now been announced for Europe as part of the presentation of the new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro and Watch Fit 2.

Fold from 6.5 to 7.8 inches

The OLED display of the Mate Xs 2 is wrapped once around the outside of the device. If you hold it like a classic smartphone, you look at a 6.5-inch touchscreen with 2480×1176 pixels of resolution. If you open the OLED display with the new Falcon-Wing hinge, the display enlarges to 7.8 inches and 2480×2200 pixels. This makes the screen almost square with a refresh rate of 120 hertz.

A Snapdragon 888 powers the Mate Xs 2. It is supported by eight gigabytes of working memory. The 512 gigabyte internal storage can be expanded by up to 256 gigabytes with an NM card, which only Huawei uses so far.

The 255-gram smartphone runs EMUI 12 ex-factory, which is at least what Huawei calls the operating system. However, it is rather Android without Google services and explicitly not HarmonyOS. The fingerprint sensor is on the side. The battery has a capacity of 4600 mAh and is quickly charged via the included 66-watt power adapter.

Like in the P50 Pro, Huawei relies on its 50-megapixel True Chroma camera in the Mate Xs 2 . In addition, there is a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. The front camera delivers selfies with 10.7 megapixels.

Huawei did not give any exact details about the price and availability yet. However, the company gives a rough direction with an expected release in June and a price of around 2000 Euros / Swiss Francs.
