I never wanted an air fryer, but now I’m in love
There’s a romance unfolding between my Cosori air dryer and me. Don’t worry, I haven’t lost it. It’s just that my chips are crispier than ever.
I absolutely must write this piece about an air fryer. Not because I’m being paid for it, but because I bought one two days ago and am obsessed.
I realise how silly that sounds. And I swear I have a life. The thing is, I didn’t initially want one of these gadgets at all.
For a long time, I believed air fryers were just another Instagram fad. No way was I going to have one hog valuable kitchen space. After all, I already have an oven, a stove, pots, pans and two hands. What’s more, chips turn out great even without a machine blowing hot air onto them.
Or so I thought.
The truth is, I live alone and don’t enjoy the faff of preparing decent meals. A few vegetables, crispy potatoes and a piece of salmon? Sounds simple enough, but often ends up being stressful. Especially during my lunch break, when I’m on a timer.
So, after mulling it over for a very, very long time, I gave in and ordered an air fryer. For purely practical reasons, of course. I went for a model that had good reviews and would look halfway decent in my kitchen: the Cosori XXL air fryer with a 5.5-litre basket. It’s not the latest model, and just a basket of hot air that plugs into a socket.
Love at first fry
The parcel arrived. Ever since that day, I’ve been affectionately calling my Cosori Air Fryer «Corsi». I say good morning to him every day. At this point, I’m starting to wonder if I’m OK. It’s not a human I’ve fallen in love with, but an air fryer that’s giving me butterflies!
I’m a bit ashamed to admit that. Come on, I’m a grown-up. I own my apartment, have a steady job and am responsible for four cockatiels who use my living room as their airport. Besides, I’ve dealt with more complicated things than operating an air fryer. And here’s me, on top of the world because I can have crispy French fries in twelve minutes. Or pumpkin wedges. Or chicken nuggets. And bread rolls.
I have fewer dishes to clean, less effort to put in and fewer reasons to view meal prepping as a major logistical undertaking.

Turns out, it really is the simple things in life. And maybe that’s the main takeaway. Daily life is made up of mundane things, after all. Cooking, cleaning up the kitchen, wondering what to do with a whole pumpkin that’s about to go off when you live alone. (By the way, I air-fried 650 grammes of Hokkaido pumpkin in 15 minutes and turned it into soup with a dash of coconut milk.)
I realise I’m late to the party. After all, half the population’s been using hot air to fry stuff for years. And here’s me all excited, as if I’ve invented the wheel. But there’s also an advantage to joining the party late: my enthusiasm’s through the roof. Everyone else finds air fryers boring by now. But not me. I’m only getting started.
