iOS 13: New functions are delayed
Some of the new functions announced for iOS 13 are likely to be delayed. Apple is already testing iOS 13.1 and has postponed some new features until then.
It is not unusual for Apple to remove new functions from the test versions of iOS or even postpone them to a later version. However, Apple has now released a beta of iOS 13.1 before the final version of iOS 13. This fuels the rumour that some new features will not be ready in time for the expected launch of iOS 13 in September.
Postponed new functions
At the presentation of iOS 13 at the WWDC developer conference in June 2019, Apple had announced audio sharing for music playback on two pairs of AirPods, a basic automation function and the ability to share the estimated time of arrival for car journeys, among other things. These disappeared from the beta versions of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 and have now reappeared in the first test versions of iOS 13.1, reports heise.de.
Developers who already had access to iOS 13.1 also report that the announced font management and the download of new fonts from the App Store are also included again. What is completely new, however, is improved mouse support on the iPhone and iPad, where context menus can now be opened by right-clicking.
Other functions announced at WWDC are still completely unavailable. This includes fundamental innovations in iCloud Drive such as the folder sharing option. There were considerable problems here at the beginning of the beta phase, so Apple is only continuing to programme internally for the time being. The option to have text messages read aloud by the AirPods or to restrict the exchange of messages to certain conversation partners within the parental controls, on the other hand, have never appeared.
Final version in mid-September
Based on the experience of recent years, Apple is expected to release the final version of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 in mid-September. Just in time for the presentation and sales launch of the new iPhone generation. However, there are no confirmed dates yet.
