Lego for the living room: furniture that you can combine creatively
Furniture that you can put together like a Lego set? This interior trend brings flexibility, creativity and fun into your home - and is inspiring the design world.
The Lego-inspired design was celebrated at the «3 Days of Design» in Copenhagen, having already caused a stir at Milan Design Week in April. The idea: living spaces that can be customised at any time. Whether stackable flower pots, interchangeable stool legs or modular sofas - this furniture is not only practical, but also fun to design.
Mooomo: Your furniture design, your style
A perfect example of this is Mooomo. The brand exhibited at the «Salone Satellite» and stands for furniture that is as changeable as you are. «Why settle for the ordinary when everyone can be part of the process? Imagine Lego for adults, only much cooler», says founder Sophy Shi.

After years in architecture, she now designs stools with interchangeable legs, stackable flower pots and more. Her collection shows: Here, you are the person who co-designs. And the best thing? Combining the pieces again and again is not only practical, but also puts you in a good mood.
Vases to build yourself at Normann Copenhagen
Home accessories are also getting creative now. Normann Copenhagen offers the collection «Deko» vases that you can arrange yourself. Different colours and shapes - mix and match as you please.

Morten Linde and Pernille Iben from Studio Yolk, who designed the collection, explain: «'The simplicity of the design is deceptive, because it has enormous versatility. By rearranging the objects and changing their stacking order and angles, you can achieve new forms of expression and evoke new feelings.» And yes, it does feel a bit like Lego - only chic and grown-up.
Hay's Colour Crates: Now it's getting square
The popular «Color Crate» boxes from Hay were also on show in Copenhagen. The stackable boxes have been a hit for some time, but things are getting even more exciting.

New shapes will be added from autumn 2025, for example square variants. This means you can use them in even more versatile ways - as shelves, tables or decorations.
Dependables by Maria Bruun: when storage becomes sculpture
Stackable boxes like the Colour Crates are not the only thing that reminds us of building with Lego. With «Dependables», Maria Bruun shows that storage can be almost poetic.
Her wooden system turns simple storage boxes into a design statement. «A box is the symbol of protection and care», explains Bruun. The perforated sides tell little stories about the things stored inside. At the same time, rounded edges and handcrafted details create a feeling of being protected.

But Bruun thinks further in an interview with Collate Form: «I dream of people collecting these boxes all their lives.» You start with one, buy two more later - and gradually build up a personal collection.
Norr11: Sofas that grow with you
The Lego principle is also conquering the world of sofas: modular seating is more popular than ever. With the «Jagger» sofa from Norr 11, for example, you can construct your own seating landscape. The design consists of individual segments that can be arranged as desired. «Jagger encourages creativity and adapts to any room», writes the manufacturer. Thanks to the double seat sides, the modular sofa also works freely in the room without being pushed up against the wall. It makes optimum use of space and creates new paths in the room, almost like a construction kit for adults.

A trend that is here to stay
The trend suits our times: flexible, customisable and sustainable. Instead of buying everything new, you can play, stack and combine. Lego-inspired designs bring a breath of fresh air and adapt to your needs - just like a Lego set for adults. They're an invitation to be creative and keep redesigning your home. So what are you waiting for? Grab the building blocks for your new favourite project and get started.
