Mattel unveils its first gender-neutral dolls
Barbie would do well to watch out for competition straight from her own house. The toy giant has just launched 'Creatable World', its new line of gender-neutral dolls.
"All welcome" is the slogan of the Mattel firm, which is inviting children to play with their new doll, neither girl nor boy. Called "Creatable World", Mattel's new collection puts the emphasis on inclusion. The aim? To create a line of dolls that emancipate themselves from labels, in the zeitgeist in short.
The special thing about these dolls is that they are modular: hair, clothes, accessories... no detail has been overlooked. So every child can give free rein to their imagination by creating their own character, and express themselves beyond the binary and clichéd colour codes of pink and blue. Their line features six dolls with different skin colours, hairstyles and styles. The toy's prepubescent body is therefore aimed at both a little boy and a little girl, who will be over the moon with the various wigs and well-stocked wardrobes.
In Switzerland and Germany, the collection will not be available until early 2020.
