Test: How good is the Sony A7 III?
by David Lee
The camerasize.com website allows you to compare camera sizes. Let's take a look at the Nikon Z6/Z7.
The size of cameras is a recurring theme. We want the best possible image quality, but we don't want to lug around a bulky camera. The camera in question needs a large sensor, which adds quite a bit of bulk. Mirrorless cameras like the recently introduced Nikon Z are generally more practical than their single-lens reflex (SLR) counterparts.
The camerasize.com website lets you select two cameras, compare their size, and generate a top or front view, for example. Images from the camera in question can either be superimposed or placed next to each other. Now that's handy.
Yesterday, when the new Z-mount system was announced, the latest Nikon Z6/Z7 cameras, which are identical in size, were not yet available for comparison. This is now possible. Let's compare the Nikon Z7 with a few cameras.
The Sony A7 III is a little more compact than the Nikon Z7, but doesn't have a display on top.
Comparison with the Nikon D850 full-frame SLR: much more compact. The display on SLR cameras isn't made up of pixels, but of drawn symbols, a technique straight out of the 80s (Nintendo games and watches). Of course, pixels save space.
The Nikon Z7 is about the same size as the Fujifilm X-H1, but it's a full-frame camera. You can clearly see the small sensor on the right-hand side of the Fujifilm.
