Don't have CarPlay or Android Auto in your car yet? Then use Sony's new 8.9-inch car radio to remedy the situation.
In car entertainment systems often leave a lot to be desired. Some of their operation is reminiscent of an old television. That's why many prefer Apple and Google solutions. With CarPlay and Android Auto, you not only benefit from a familiar interface, but also from many of your smartphone's functions. As many vehicles, especially older ones, are not equipped with Carplay or Android Auto, Sony now offers a solution.

The new Sony XAV-AX8000 radio connects via the standard DIN connector. It therefore replaces an existing radio or entertainment system. The touchscreen measures 8.9 inches, which is almost the size of a normal iPad. The device is height-adjustable and tilts thanks to a joint. For Carplay and Android Auto to work, you need to connect your smartphone using a cable. On the bottom edge are eight buttons for additional control elements such as volume and more.
The Sony XAV-AX8000 is expected to be available in late 2019, early 2020 and cost around $600 in the US. digitec will also offer the device in its range. The exact price is not yet known.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
