Switch 2 launch boosts Nintendo sales sixfold on Galaxus

Nintendo is making serious waves on the games console market right now, with June proving to be a bumper sales month. The launch of the Switch 2 saw the Japanese manufacturer’s market share on Galaxus double compared to June 2024. Men are particularly keen on the new console, with male shoppers proving ten times more likely than female customers to buy the Switch 2.

After an eight-year wait, the Switch 2 finally hit the shelves on 5 June. The console enjoyed a promising first week. In fact, Galaxus sent out six times more consoles to customers in June 2025 than it did in June 2024. What’s more, the Switch 2 accounted for 90 per cent of Nintendo’s console sales on Galaxus, more than doubling its game console market share on both Galaxus and Digitec. Anneke Knobeler, a Galaxus Category Business Manager whose remit includes games consoles says: «There’s been an enormous run on the new Switch. Unfortunately, we’re unable to send out every order immediately. On some occasions, we have to wait until our stocks are replenished. That said, we’re doing our best. Customers who order a Switch 2 usually receive it in good time.»

Gaming accessories are also riding on the coat-tails of the Switch boom. Sales of controllers and other pieces of gaming equipment have gone up by around 60 per cent and 124 per cent respectively. Given the Switch 2’s fairly hefty price tag, it’s little wonder that customers choosing to buy one also want to prevent it from breaking in a moment of carelessness. Many are opting to buy protective cases or pouches to help with that. Meanwhile, travel adapters and spare power supply units are also very popular.

Switch enthusiasts are men aged between 25 and 44

Around 75 per cent of all Switch 2 consoles ordered in June were purchased by shoppers aged between 25 and 44. The Switch has mostly caught the interest of male customers: Galaxus’s sales figures show that men are around ten times more likely to buy the sought-after console than women.

The Galaxus editorial team’s verdict: «A successful upgrade with weaknesses»

Naturally, the Galaxus editorial team also got their hands on a Switch 2 to put the console through its paces. The result was a complex picture, revealing both strengths and weaknesses. Here’s the link to the full review:
