If you have a Nintendo Switch online subscription, you can look forward to new «free games» in the coming weeks, according to rumours. After the NES and SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are now to be available for the Switch.

Game Boy and Game Boy Color games will soon be available on the Switch – with the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. So far, this offers multiplayer modes including voice chat, a cloud storage feature, and exclusive offers. Also, 68 NES Games have been released so far for the Switch since September 2018, and 32 Super Nintendo Games have been released since September 2019, which are included in the subscription.

Nintendo insider NateDrake claimed in his latest podcast that an update to the online service will add a Game Boy and Game Boy Color emulator to the Switch in the coming weeks. In response, «Nintendo Life» picked up on the statement in a report and confirmed that this innovation is supposed to come very soon. NateDrake and the online magazine consider an emulator for the Game Boy Advance rather unlikely. Currently, some studios are working on remaster versions of GBA games. They would probably compete too much with the emulator. Meanwhile, other hints of new emulators that are still likely to follow at some point have been around since 2019. At the time, OatmealDome pointed out in a tweet that there are a total of four emulators in the Switch software called Kachikachi (NES Classic), Canoe (SNES Classic), Hiyoko and Count.

Nintendo has not yet confirmed any of this. The «Game Boy Games on the Switch» option combined with the release of a new Switch OLED model is expected to provide a marketing boost and good sales figures. Super Mario Land 2 on the Switch? Cave Noire? Yes, please. But don't forget that, if this is indeed coming, you'll need a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription , which currently costs 28 Swiss francs or 19.99 euros for 12 months.

I find my muse in everything. When I don’t, I draw inspiration from daydreaming. After all, if you dream, you don’t sleep through life.
