Either hard, bulky and sensitive or inflatable with less performance. When it comes to surfboards, there is only either or. A new technology is set to change that.
Until now, surfers and stand-up paddlers have had to make compromises. Either their boards are hard, bulky and easily damaged. Or they rely on inflatable models. Although these can be packed small, they do not offer the performance of hardboards. The Munich-based manufacturer TRIPSTIX wants to combine the best of both worlds. You can see how the Bavarians want to achieve this in the video above. The company recently presented the award-winning shortboard at a sports trade fair.
High-pressure chambers with different tube circumferences define the shape of the board. At the same time, the arrangement of the tubes creates a rigid structure that provides a hardboard feel. And the pack size is small thanks to this technology. This means that you can pack it small for transport. The inflatable shortboard will be available from this summer and will cost around 800 francs. It remains to be seen when the SUP with the same patented tube technology will be launched on the market.
