The photo 18 is running

The major photo exhibition in Zurich-Oerlikon opens today, Friday.
According to the organisers themselves, photo Zürich is the "largest and most important photography exhibition in Switzerland". It aims to provide a comprehensive overview of photographic work in our country and takes place every year in January. This year it runs from 12 to 16 January from 11.00 to 20.00. You can find all further information on the website photo18.ch.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the photoFORUM, a series of lectures. Just today, Friday, two illustrious names: Scott Schuman and Michel Comte.
I've been to the exhibition several times in the past. My impression has always been that there are a lot of very different things on show - and of varying quality. But can I even allow myself to make such a judgement? What is a good photo anyway? Is it possible to make an objective judgement? Nowadays, when even amateur photographers take absolutely outstanding pictures in terms of technique and craftsmanship, it seems to me that this is becoming increasingly difficult.

The series "Homeless in Zurich" is the opposite of technical and handcrafted perfection. Nevertheless, the whole thing is extraordinary and relevant, because in the project the homeless people themselves took the photographs.

The astrophotography of Ben Moore, astrophysicist at the University of Zurich, is completely different. Not everyone can do this today. How are such images created? Moore explains on Sunday, 14 January (details).
In any case, an exhibition like this is a good opportunity to think again about what actually makes a good photo - for you personally.
