This is the coolest mountain bike commercial ever

New mountain bikes are launched every year. So far, so good. But not all of them are launched with commercials that are as cool as the ones by YT Industries. They’re probably more effective than any other bike ad – without actually showing a single bike.

«Life, it will test you,» says a male voice in Japanese, «dull your spirit, if you let it.»

The camera moves away from a traditional lantern to an armed man who’s carrying a sword on his back. He appears to be about to fight another fighter, as he’s swinging his Kusarigama, a blade on a chain, through the air.

A fight ensues.

Wow. I don't know anything about mountain bikes, but I know I want a YT Izzo. Or a feature film about this animated swordsman.

The clip was created by London-based animation studio The Line to show what it feels like to ride the new YT Izzo bike. The video description doesn’t mention that The Line made this ad, but the animators found a subtle way to leave their signature.

There’s a sticker with the logo of the animation studio on the pillar on the right.

The best detail is seen after 14 seconds, when our hero runs towards his opponent and draws his sword.

Here’s the perspective of a biker:

Isn’t that comparison brilliant?

At the end, our hero puts his sword away. Cut to a white screen. The animation ends and reality begins. The top tube of the Izzo bike appears exactly where the sword was.

The end.
