«Black Mirror» returns with a new season, Angelina Jolie's «Maleficent» will probably join the Dark Side after all and HBO is looking for a successor to «Game of Thrones». This week’s notable trailers.

The Netflix original «Black Mirror» is one of the most popular shows on offer by the streaming provider. Disney wants to repeat the mega-success of «Maleficent» while in «Angel Has Fallen» the president of the USA is on a hit list for the third time. Sylvester Stallone is trying to break out of prison - another familiar story - and HBO presents «His Dark Materials», a new series that is supposed to keep subscribers on their toes just in time for the end of the «Game of Thrones».

Black Mirror, season five

After the «Bandersnatch» experiment, where the viewer was allowed to influence the plot by making decisions, «Black Mirror» returns to its tried and tested principle with a fifth season: three independent stories about a future we should have seen coming.

Start date: 5/6/2019, Netflix

Angel Has Fallen

In the third instalment of the «... Has Fallen» series, the US President (Morgan Freeman) is attacked for the third time and almost killed. Also on security duty for the third time is Secret Service agent Mike Bannings (Gerard Butler), code name «Angel». For the first time, however, the FBI is suspecting Bannings, ergo: Angel has fallen. Now Banning has to clear his name while half the world is hunting him down.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 29/8/2019

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Maleficent is the evil witch from the 1959 Disney classic «Sleeping Beauty». In 2014 - 55 years later - a live-action version with Angelina Jolie in the leading role came out, which revealed the antagonist’s backstory. A success: «Maleficent» grossed 758 million dollars worldwide. No wonder there’s a sequel. It’s the law or something.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 17/10/2019

Escape Plan 3: The Extractors

There was a second part, I hear you wondering? Then we’re in the same boat. In the first «Escape Plan», Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) and Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) had to break out of a prison designed by Breslin himself. The kicker: Breslin is an expert on maximum security prisons. Part two is similar, but with Dave Bautista replacing of Schwarzenegger. Part three is even more similar, bringing Curtis «50 Cent» Jackson on board. I'll unpack the popcorn and turn off my brain.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 14/11/2019

His Dark Materials

The 2007 adaptation «The Golden Compass» of the first novel in the fantasy book series «His Dark Materials» by Philip Pullman was disappointing. After all, Pullman's award-winning trilogy is considered a modern masterpiece and any film about it should be a shoe-in for success. More than 10 years later, HBO is attempting a new edition in series format. In it, Lyra (Dafne Keen), searching for a kidnapped friend, uncovers a sinister plot about kidnapped children and travels through numerous worlds - including our own.

Start date: Unknown, but still 2019, HBO

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
