Trailer Tuesday: Star Trek: Picard, Locke & Key and Guns Akimbo

Star Trek fans can rejoice: "Star Trek: Picard" arrives this weekend. "Guns Akimbo" should arrive sometime in March. And if it doesn't? A Tuesday Trailer heavy on Netflix material I must say.
I love crazy stuff like "Guns Akimbo". Let's see if the film in which Harry Potter gets two guns nailed to his hands lives up to its promise. The 'Star Trek: Picard' trailer has just ruined my weekend plans; sorry darling, we'll have to postpone our trip to the mountains. I've got no choice.
But the series that has really piqued my curiosity is "Locke & Key". You too?
Star Trek: Picard
A little more patience and the first Star Trek series entirely dedicated to the 79-year-old man who likes hot Earl Grey tea will begin. Too bad: binge watching isn't in the cards. The "Star Trek: Picard" series is a CBS series. CBS only broadcasts one episode a week. Even if, outside the United States, Star Trek: Picard is not shown on CBS - in this case on Amazon - the series should not be ahead of the original channel. That's why Amazon Prime Video only offers one new episode a week.
What is the series about? It takes place 20 years after "Star Trek: Nemesis", which came out in 2002. Picard (Patrick Stewart) has meanwhile left Starfleet and is spending his retirement in his vineyard. One day, a young woman appears and asks him for help. He decides to put his old uniform back on. But he has to do without the support of the United Federation of Planets - it looks like a solo mission.
Apparently, the Borg are back; a race of undiplomatic cybernetic creatures who were already one of the worst enemies of humans in the old Enterprise series. We don't know why Picard doesn't seem to be part of Starfleet any more. Perhaps it's due to a clause in the contract that actor Patrick Stewart mentioned as a condition of returning to 'Star Trek': he'd like to develop the character of Picard further. We'll soon see in which direction.
Launch date: 24. January 2020, Amazon Prime Video
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3
Remember "Sabrina - The Sorcerer's Apprentice" starring Melissa Joan Hart? Well, the series is on Netflix too. Although no - not exactly. Apart from the name and most of the characters - including the black cat Salem - the series has little in common with the pre-'90s sitcom.
The Netflix version is much scarier and more adult. And last but not least: it's no longer a sitcom. For some, the series could be a culture shock. However, the revival is so popular on Netflix that it's entering its third season. If you want to get started now: here is a recap of the first two seasons.
Which version of "Sabrina" do you prefer?
Launch date: 24 January 2020, Netflix.
Locke & Key
Strictly speaking, the trailer isn't from last week. In my defence: I came across the trailer because of this behind the scenes clip. The latter was only released yesterday. So strictly speaking, I'm only half cheating.
What's the series about? Locke and Key. It's originally a comic book series by Stephen King's son Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriquez. The series takes place on a cursed old estate. Inside are doors that not only lead to other rooms, but also change whoever passes through them. But the ordinary visitor is not alone. This house offers shelter to a hateful creature who won't give up until it opens the most horrific of doors.
From the trailer, I imagine the series to be a kind of creepy mix between 'The Chronicles of Narnia' and 'The Haunting of Hill House'. The photography and atmosphere, as well as the music and cinematography, make me want to see more. Very promising.
Launch date: 7 February 2020, Netflix
Guns Akimbo
The famous meme of Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe explaining with two guns in his hands that they're much better than magic wands, finally has a trailer.
And it looks wonderfully weird: Skizm, a dodgy organisation, forces seemingly random normal people to fight to the death. The fights are illegal and broadcast live on the internet. People think it's absolutely brilliant. Of course they do. As video game programmer Daniel Radcliffe is one of the few people who has a negative opinion about this, Skizm boss Riktor (Ned Dennehy) simply decides to let Radcliffe "take part". It may be that the problem will "work itself out".
One thing remains to be done: switch off the brain, watch the film. That's it.
Theatrical release: 5 March 2020
Spenser Confidential
After "6 Underground", Netflix presents the next action film with a Hollywood star in the lead role. This time it's not Ryan Reynolds, but Mark Wahlberg. Apparently he was framed and wrongly put in prison. Now that he's out, he's out for revenge.
He's backed by "Black Panther" star Winston Duke and Alan Arkin, who previously played an eccentric elderly character in films such as "Argo"" or "Little Miss Sunshine".
Launch date: 6 March 2020, Netflix
