You want trailers? I have trailers. Lots of them. The trailer to «Hunters», for instance, a series about Jewish vigilantes on a brutal mission of revenge. Or the trailer to the epic battle of Jackie Chan against Arnold Schwarzenegger. It’s Trailer Tuesday, man!

This week in Trailer Tuesday:

  • «Hunters», cinema release : 21 February 2020
  • «The Way Back», cinema release: 6 March 2020
  • «Westworld», season 3, release date: 15 March 2020, HBO
  • «The Iron Mask», release date: 10 April 2020
  • «The Green Knight», cinema release: 29 May 2020
  • «Stranger Things», season 4, release date: summer or autumn 2021, Netflix

Hunters red band trailer

Red band trailers are R-rated movie trailers, which contain more violence, nudity and/or swear words than «green band» versions that are approved for all audiences. An R rating is equivalent to FSK 16 in Switzerland.

The fact that a Red Band trailer for the new Amazon series «Hunters» even exists says quite a lot about its tonality: it’s more about exaggerated pulp than historical correctness. This goes with the summary of the trailer: in 1977 New York, a group of Jewish Nazi hunters finds out that hundreds of escaped Nazis live in America and plan to build a Fourth Reich. They set out for revenge.

Release date: 21 February 2020, Amazon Prime

The Way Back

Back – to life. «The Way Back» tells the story of a man (Ben Affleck) who went from being a high-school basketball star to an alcoholic who lost everything. Now he’s fifty and gets the chance to return to his alma mater as the team's head coach. It’s a second chance at life for him and a chance for the team to fight their way out of a low.

The film is likely to mean a lot to Affleck, who only recently spoke for the first time about his own alcohol addiction. About how it destroyed his marriage with Jennifer Garner and almost cost him his relationship with their children. About how hard it was to accept the addiction and not mask his shame but do something about it.

That was in 2013. Affleck's fought his way back since. And when the trailer shows him speaking about the trials life has put him through, he’s not only playing the character in the film, but is also saying this as a human being.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 6 March 2020

Westworld, season 3

The futuristic amusement park, where guests use robots to reenact Wild West tales, is a thing of the past. In the third season, the artificial humanoids – the hosts – break into a world they should never have been able to enter: ours.

If you don't know this series, it’s about time you start watching it. «Westworld» is so good because, unlike Netflix’s «Black Mirror», it doesn't warn about technology, but raises the question of how we should deal with it. Sensational.

Release date: 15 March 2020, HBO

The Iron Mask

What is «The Iron Mask»? Good question. The trailer seems to be a compilation of three films that have little in common and nothing to do with an iron mask.

But in fact, «The Iron Mask» is the sequel to the Russian low-budget fantasy adventure «Forbidden Empire». Released in 2015 and successful enough to justify a sequel, years of disputes between the producers and lengthy shootings in the UK, Russia and China delayed the release of the film, which in some countries is called «Journey To China: The Mystery Of Iron Mask».

Be that as it may. There's only one reason to watch this movie: Jackie Chan vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hell, yeah!

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 10 April 2020

The Green Knight

In this Arthurian legend, Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) is a Knight of the Round Table who accepts the challenge of a mysterious Green Knight (Ralph Ineson): anyone who has the courage to strike the Green Knight with his axe is to take the counterblow in a year and a day, should the Green Knight survive the axe stroke. Sir Gawain beheads the Knight, but the headless knight rises, laughing maliciously, to remind Sir Gawain of his chivalry and honour. For it is now his turn to strike back.

And the trailer?

Weird, to say the least. As is so often the case with A24 Films. Not that there's any word for slanting. As is so often the case with A24 Films. The film studio, which has produced gems such as «Hereditary» or «The Lighthouse», is known for independent films that are confusing for most, but also scary and fascinating.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 29 May 2020

Stranger Things, season 4

The successful Netflix series «Stranger Things» enters its fourth series. We've known that for quite a while. The new teaser confirms what the after-credit scene at the end of the third season implied: Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is still alive. Only his hair has been reduced to its atoms.

Well, that's it. That’s all the trailer reveals.

Release date: summer or autumn 2021, Netflix

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
