This product keeps your eyeshadow firmly in place. Kryolan’s secret weapon defies sweat, rain showers and, I’d wager, hooded eyelids, too.
I’ve tested thousands of beauty products in my life. Among them: countless disappointments, plenty of decent finds – and, every now and then, when the sun, moon and stars aligned just right, absolute gamechangers.
This is the story of one such gamechanger.
It starts with a bit of a downer, because our protagonist isn’t part of the Galaxus range. I’ll introduce it to you anyway. After all, it could still be added, and this product frankly deserves some attention.
Once upon a time...
There was a small and unassuming hero. You could easily mistake the Cake Eye Liner Sealer for a bottle of eye drops. It’s made by the brand Kryolan, the go-to for all types of make-up artists.
The transparent fluid was developed specifically as a companion for another Kryolan product: the Cake Eye Liner. Using a brush, you can mix the solid liner with a bit of water for a creamy, spreadable consistency – or, for more staying power, with this sealer. Kryolan’s website states: «Cake Eye Liner Sealer fixes the applied Cake Eye Liner in place, increases its durability and improves its water resistance.»
Sounds cool! There’s just one hitch: I don’t own this specific eyeliner, nor do I want to buy it. But I’ve got an idea. I’ll dare an experiment.
Plot twist
My theory pans out: the sealer works with regular eyeshadow, creating an excellent base. I can also use it to turn any shade into a liquid eyeliner – with a surprisingly long wear time!
To achieve a similar effect before this discovery, I used to reach for a completely ordinary setting spray. Setting sprays bind the particles, making them shine more intensely and allowing the eyeshadow to be applied like a liquid product. But the staying power leaves something to be desired.
Kryolan’s sealer, on the other hand, is water- and sweat-resistant. It lasts all day long. And I mean aaall daaay looong. Throughout my attempts, I’ve learnt the product really comes into its own with shimmery eyeshadow. It practically turns it into liquid metal with noticeably more intense colours.
My happy ending
These days, the drops are a staple in my kit. I now apply all my shimmer eyeshadows by first mixing them on the back of my hand, using either my finger or a brush, with a drop of this magic stuff. Sometimes I wear it as a liner, sometimes as a regular eyeshadow. Both work swimmingly.
Tip: To preserve your eyeshadows, make sure you don’t get sealer into the pan.
When I look in the mirror come evening, I have no creasing. Everything is exactly where I applied it that morning. For people with fine lines, oily eyelids or hooded eyelids in particular, who have issues getting their eyeshadow to stay put, this little product could be a more effective alternative to a regular eyeshadow primer.
This highly economical product has fundamentally changed the way I use eyeshadow, and it’s a wholehearted recommendation.
And that’s where the story of the small hero who achieved great things comes to a happy ending.
