From Batman – The Animated Series to Biker Mice from Mars and Dinosaurs: my favourite 90s kids’ TV shows (part 2)

Is it Christmas again? After acquiring the worldwide rights to "Weihnachtsmann & Co. KG", children's channel Super RTL is planning to develop the format further and produce new content and merchandise - including toys.
"Father Christmas. Tell me, why are you so clever? How do you know exactly what every child's Christmas wish is?" With these words in the intro song, the series "Weihnachtsmann & Co. KG" welcomes us every year in the run-up to Christmas on Super RTL. Since 1997, the originally French-Canadian animated series with its mere 26 episodes has been attracting viewers young and old to the television and regularly brings the children's channel high market shares. Super RTL has now acquired the worldwide rights to the series and plans to develop the format further. The broadcaster did not disclose the purchase price.
With our many years of expertise in children's programmes, we can creatively expand the format, re-adapt it for digital channels and thus keep it fresh and attractive for future generations
An extension of the existing 26 episodes, each with a running time of 22 minutes, therefore seems conceivable. Or maybe even a new series? A spin-off? We can certainly look forward to it.
In addition, RTL Germany also wants to utilise the brand's popularity in the licensing business. "The brand can be used to realise innovative products in a wide range of categories. The spectrum ranges from plush, toys and clothing for kids to decorative, homewear and food items," says Hendrik Rinsche, Senior Vice President RTL Consumer Products. Initial talks are to be held at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in the coming days. What the final realisation will look like is still up in the air. Also whether we will get these products into the shop. But I will be happy to let you know as soon as I find out more.
In my retro article about my favourite children's series of the 90s, I have already introduced the series. Why don't you check it out again.
Would you be happy about a possible continuation of the series? Let me know in the comments.
