Will the Samsung Galaxy S21/S30 be coming out in January?

According to various rumours, the Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra will be out come January. Or is it S30? Even with pictures, many questions remain unanswered.

A flood of images and leaks from several independent sources are all claiming the same thing: a new Samsung Galaxy will arrive in January 2021.

The only thing this collection of whistleblowers are unsure about is the actual device name. Is it the Samsung Galaxy S21 or Samsung Galaxy S30? All because Samsung switched to a new naming scheme with the S20; the S10 wasn't followed by the S11, but by the S20. We know for sure that a Samsung Galaxy S21/S30 Ultra will be released.

An adventurous new design

Until now, smartphone camera bumps have been installed on the back. But Samsung is breaking new ground.

The camera bump on both models reaches from the side edge to the screen. Actual camera specs are still unknown. But there's no bump on the side, as the camera element is nestled in the same line as the side edge from a raised position.

Apart from the daring design, little else is known. However, Steve Hemmerstoffer a.k.a. OnLeaks claims to know the exact dimensions.

  • Samsung Galaxy S21: 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm (9.0mm for the camera bump).
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra: 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9mm (10.8mm for the camera bump).

While the S21 possesses a flat screen, the Ultra's will reportedly be curved.

What we don't know

That's already all we know about the new Samsung Galaxies. Details on the camera systems are still missing, although Hemmerstoffer suspects that the S21 Ultra will utilise its thick camera bulge for a periscope zoom lens.

Nor does Steve Hemmerstoffer know the answer to the digitec community's most important question: when will the device be released in Switzerland? It's a mystery. Hey, even the «January» release date is still only a rumour unconfirmed by Samsung.
