Windows 365 launch: what does Microsoft’s cloud PC cost?

Translation: Eva Francis

With Windows 365, Microsoft is sending the Windows PC to the cloud. This allows employees of a company to access their work PC from anywhere. The service has officially launched – and now we know how much it costs.

In mid-July, the tech giant from Redmond unveiled its new cloud PC service to the public. Now you can officially buy Windows 365 for your company. Microsoft has announced pricing for the various cloud PC options.

The service allows employees of a licensed company to access a streamed version of Windows 10 and, in the future, Windows 11, from a wide variety of devices. This means users can also access their Windows desktop from their Android smartphone or their MacBook –

either via the browser window or, alternatively, through a remote desktop application. However, this is currently only available for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android. Linux users will have to settle for browser access for the time being.

The pricing of the options

We already knew there will be two versions of Windows 365: Business and Enterprise - or as it is now called on the Swiss page: SMEs (Kleine und mittelständische Unternehmen) and large companies (Grossunternehmen). Microsoft offers the SME version for companies with up to 300 employees. The Enterprise version is intended for companies with more than 300 employees.

There’s a Basic, Standard and Premium option for both versions. They cost the same in both cases:

  • Basic: 32.90 CHF / 28.20 Euro user/month
  • Standard: 43.60 CHF / 37.30 Euro user/month
  • Premium: 70.10 CHF / 60.10 Euro user/month

The power and storage options are also identical for the SME and large company versions. The Basic option offers 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of RAM; the standard option also offers 2 vCPU, but with 8 GB of working memory; the premium option offers 4 vCPUs and 16 GB of working memory. All three options come with 128 GB of data storage.

Two-month trial

You can try Windows 365 for free for two months if you register for it with your credit card. Control the service via the Microsoft Admin Center and activate corresponding users or learn more here via the Swiss product page (in German).

«I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles!» – these words spoken by an iconic American TV celebrity could have been mine. It's a take on life I also apply to my job. What does this mean in concrete terms? That every story has its charm; no matter how small, large, exciting or trivial. The more eclectic the mix, the better.
