The modular interface GBIC stands for Gigabit Interface Converter and allows the transition from one transmission medium to another. This simplifies your installation: instead of having to replace an interface card in the switch, an SFP port can serve as Gigabit Ethernet, fiber optic, or 2-wire connection.

SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) or Mini-GBIC is the advanced version with a smaller form factor and higher speeds. However, SFP+ is even faster than its predecessor, supporting 8 Gbit/s fiber and 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
