The AXIS T8611 SFP module LC.LX is an SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) transceiver that provides an optical fiber network connection for network devices such as switches and routers. The module is suitable for industrial use due to its wide temperature range (between -40 and 65 °C) and features a link-loss function that enables network redundancy. It complies with the SFP Multisource Agreement (MSA) and can be easily installed at any time on compatible ports without interrupting the online operation of the host devices. Long-wavelength FP laser diodes (1,310 nm) allow for data transmission over distances of up to 10 km using optical fibers (single-mode, 9/125 µm). The module has been tested and verified with Axis products.

Link-loss function for network redundancy: The link-loss function (LOS – Loss of Signal) allows the system to detect a loss of connection between specific hardware (such as Axis network cameras) and the host. For optimal network redundancy, the AXIS T8611 sends a signal to the hardware in the event of a broken or unsuitable connection for network traffic. This enables the network traffic to be redirected from the hardware to a backup connection, such as an RJ45 port.

Fiber optic cables are typically used for long-distance connections in urban surveillance systems, at airports, and other large installations where there is a risk of lightning strikes or where long distances need to be covered.
