Gray Filter - Creative Through Less Light
Gray filters, also known as ND filters (Neutral Density), block the entire visible spectrum evenly and result in a reduction of light without affecting colors and contrast. Since they also block UV radiation, there is no need for an additional UV filter. Additionally, a gray filter is often required to reduce depth of field when using a wide aperture. However, the strength of the effect in this application depends on the focal length of the lens. Furthermore, they allow for "normal" shutter speeds and aperture values when the film sensitivity is too high for the prevailing brightness.
Gray Filter:
Filter Factor: 1000
Stops: 10
Density (ND): 3.0
B+W Gray Filter 110:
With ten stops of light reduction, this gray filter offers an improvement over the previous model (also providing a slightly warmer tone). Its main application is in the observation and documentation of industrial processes under extreme brightness (such as melting furnaces, filaments in halogen and other lamps, and combustion processes).
