All Lightwin fiber optic patch cables are processed with special ferrules and methods to ensure high quality. These cables are suitable for various fiber optic applications in telecommunications, including patching in data centers, server or network cabinets, and fiber to the home (FTTH). By using singlemode ferrules for the Lightwin multimode patch cords and specially selected ferrules with the lowest tolerances for the Lightwin singlemode patch cords, attenuation values are achieved that far exceed the required standards according to ISO/IEC.

Equivalent terms for fiber optic patch cords include patch cords, adapter cords, connection cords, and jumpers. While a conventional signal in a copper cable may be subject to electrical interference, fiber optic cables transmit data using light. Therefore, they are not affected by electromagnetic interference from the outside, nor do they interfere with other cables or signals, as fiber optic cables do not emit radiation. Due to the low attenuation of the optical cables, distances of more than 100 km can be bridged without optical amplification.

The LC connector is a high-performance fiber optic connector for singlemode and multimode applications, known for its low insertion loss. It is one of the most common types of fiber optic connectors. The design of the LC connector features a single fiber ceramic ferrule with a 1.25 mm diameter for an optical fiber. Its compact design allows for high packing density, making it ideal for use in fiber optic switches. In connectors with the addition APC, the end face is not only crowned, but the normal of the fiber end face is also tilted by a few degrees to the fiber axis. This design allows reflected light from the core to be refracted out into the air via the cladding glass, preventing interference with data transmission.
