The Neumann BCM 705 mt is a dynamic broadcast microphone featuring a matte black finish, representing Neumann's first dynamic microphone design. This hypercardioid microphone operates without requiring phantom power and delivers a frequency response range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a noise level of 18 dB(A). The microphone incorporates a redesigned capsule based on the Sennheiser MD 431 handheld stage microphone, housed in the same enclosure as the BCM 104 condenser model for immediate brand recognition. Neumann implemented significant revisions to the original MD 431 capsule production processes to achieve tighter tolerances in both frequency response and sensitivity.

To enhance low-frequency reproduction, the entire capsule construction in the BCM 705 mt was enlarged and acoustically coupled to a rear port. This design provides solid bass response while minimizing low-frequency buildup from proximity effect, making the microphone suitable for both close mixing and situations requiring slightly greater working distance from the sound source. The integrated pop filter system, similar to those used in Neumann's KMS 105 and BCM 104 microphones, eliminates the need for foam covering while providing improved plosive protection without compromising high-frequency clarity. The removable pop screen can be detached without tools for cleaning purposes.

Neumann redesigned the mechanical capsule suspension to reduce sensitivity to stand noise and mechanical shocks, featuring an elastic mounting system within the housing. The microphone is compatible with all standard broadcast microphone arms and maintains the professional build quality expected from Neumann products. The matte black finish distinguishes this model from the nickel-finished BCM 705 variant, with both sharing identical technical specifications and performance characteristics.
