I am thrilled. Ancient DVD is upscaled well and the colors stand out. No blurry movements. Bluray upscaled perfectly to 4k. UHD Bluray is unsurpassable anyway, with HDR and Dolby Vision. Highly recommended.
For Blu-Rays, the player is very good. Can read all discs.
For the NAS where movies are stored with DTS HD Master, Panasonic unfortunately still can not play the sound format.
The device meets all my expectations. Even if you don't want to buy 4K discs but still have a 4K-capable TV, you should think about buying a UHD player. Good UHD players (like this Panasonic) recognise that a 4K TV is connected and perform upscaling when lower resolution discs are inserted. The result with Blue-Ray is impressive. DVDs also gain in brilliance.
Unlike many other UHD players on the market, the Panasonic DP-UB824 has a display, which I personally find very pleasant. In contrast, some devices on the market are not even equipped with a single LED, from which you could tell if the device is switched on.
The sound output via Toslink is also very good. Discs with DD or DTS in 7.1 are mixed down to DD or DTS 5.1. My 'old' AV receiver has no HDMI input and can only process 5.1 digital signals. That works fine with this player.
My 'old' collection of self-recorded DVD+RW's can also be played by the player, even though it is not listed in the specifications.
With SACDs, only the CD track is recognised. DVD-Audio's are only readable in DVD playback mode. However, the restriction for SACDs and DVD-Audio is also correctly stated in the specifications.
In any case, it is not advisable to use the same player for films and music. Who wants the TV to switch on when you only want to listen to a CD?

My + and -'s already say almost everything. I will add, however, that I bought this player to replace a Sony UBP-X800 that simply refused to turn on after less than 200 movies watched. And I don't regret the change. Where 3D blu-rays on my Sony ZD9-65 suffered from sometimes annoying ghosting with the UBP X-800, this Panasonic does not. The 3D is incredibly accurate and the scaling of the full HD blu-ray to a 4K screen is indecently perfect. The opening scene of "the Dark Knight" blu-ray looks like it came from the 4K blu-ray. For video only and if a front screen is not a necessity, its little brother the 424 will suffice. At this price, this player is a good value for money, at less than 350, you have to buy it!
WARNING however, this player does decode DTS and DTS HD from blu-ry but not from mkv or h.265/HEVC files. Your files will be played but without the sound! A Nvidia Shield will be a good addition if you have many files of this type.

The player delivers what it promises: brilliant 4K HDR at a low price. In addition, there is a user interface that takes some getting used to and a remote control that makes you want to puke. The Home and Netflix buttons are arranged in such a way that you are GUARANTEED to accidentally press them when navigating with the arrow keys and interrupt the film!

I can even play my ISO files from the NAS flawlessly.
