Cat6 cables are designed for operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz and are used for signal transmission with high data transfer rates of up to 1 Gbps. Due to the high signal frequencies, special care is required during installation and assembly, particularly at the connection points of the wires. The individual wire pairs in Cat6 are twisted at different tightness levels, further reducing susceptibility to interference compared to Cat5e. Application areas for Cat6 cables include voice and data transmission as well as multimedia and ATM networks. Even more powerful are cables according to Cat6e (500 MHz) and Cat6a (625 MHz).
